Intake Phone Interview

We offer a complimentary intake phone interview with one of our experienced therapists to determine whether the types of services we have to offer are a good fit and appropriate for your family’s and child’s needs. We want to begin understanding your child and family holistically right from the start so this interview is comprehensive and unique to each child.  You’ll also have the chance to learn more about what OT is and sensory integration.

    Evaluation

Therapy In Action believes that a child’s diagnosis or reason for referral is merely the starting point.  Our assessments and plan of care are unique to each child and are based upon each child’s strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, individual needs, and the needs of their family.  We value the critical role that families play in their child’s lives.  We strive to make parents and caregivers an integral and active participant in the child’s assessment and intervention, from establishing goals to treatment planning to home programming and eventually to discharge planning.

    • Following the intake interview, if an evaluation is recommended and agreed upon you will be scheduled with one of our therapists for an in person assessment.  Paperwork will be provided for your completion, please bring all completed paperwork with you to your evaluation or email electronic copies of the paperwork to your evaluating therapist.
    • You are welcome to stay with your child during the evaluation, or you may wait in our waiting room.  The parent and therapist decide collaboratively which approach is best suited to the needs and temperament of your child.
    • If you have any pertinent reports or assessments from other therapists or specialists who are seeing or have seen your child please share them with your therapist.  This information allows us to collaborate and fully understand your child from other professionals’ expertise.
    • Family Conference: After the evaluation session the therapist will schedule your parent conference (included in the evaluation fee).  At the conference your evaluating therapist will review the results and recommendations and answer any of your questions and you will be provided with the written report.  If services are recommended, we collaborate with you to identify meaningful, specific and measurable goals for your child’s therapy. Having goals allows us to monitor your child’s progress and ensure sessions are focused on areas that are most appropriate for your child.  Following the parent conference if therapy is recommended and agreed upon, the office staff will discuss scheduling options with you.

    Sessions

All sessions are provided by licensed and registered therapists only.  Sessions typically are 50 minutes in length with a short debrief at the transition home. Sessions occur in one of our two gym spaces or smaller treatment rooms, or a combination of both spaces depending on the child’s needs.  Sessions typically either 1 or 2 times per week.

    • In our experience, often children cannot wait to come back the following week because they have so much fun while “working.”
    • We consistently communicate with parents and caregivers during or after sessions, via emails, phone calls and parent conferences to be

    Progress reports and Re-evaluation

Throughout the therapy process it is necessary to monitor progress toward goals to determine we are on the right track toward graduation from services.  Progress reports will be completed on a regular basis to measure progress toward the goals we have been working on and develop changes in the plan of care. At times, your therapist may recommend completing formalized or standardized assessments to gauge progress.  You may be asked to schedule a family conference to review your child’s needs and updated plan of care.

    Graduation

Our end goal for your child and family is to acquire and foster skills that will help you gain the independence and confidence you need and want and no longer need the support of therapy.
